Living A Healthy Lifestyle? Ask yourself these 4 Questions to find out!

By Steph G.

This year, I decided to take a long look at the things I’m doing for myself. I also took a long look at the examples I’m setting for my daughter – specifically in regards to how I treat my body. Am I showing her what good habits look like? Am I leading by example? If I’m being honest with myself….no. I wasn’t. I was helping her make good choices for herself (lots of water, balanced meals, running around outside) but I wasn’t doing any of those things for myself! And if working with kids on a daily basis has taught me one thing, it’s “Monkey See, Monkey Do.” I need to step up and show her (and myself!) what being physically healthy should look like.

Here are a few simple questions you can ask yourself to see if you’re making simple steps towards a healthier lifestyle…

Am I drinking enough water? How much water do I need?

You need half of your body weight in oz. SO, for example, if you weigh 140 lbs, you need 70oz of water per day. Looking for a cute water bottle? Here’s One!

Should I be taking a Multi-Vitamin regularly?

There are so many options out there that can provide you with what your body needs. I really love the Olly Superfoods Multivitamin! I know that I feel better when I’m taking a multivitamin consistently. My mom can always tell too. She says I’m less crabby and tired 🙂

When was the last time I had a fruit or vegetable?

OK. Real talk. I’m not great at remembering to eat fruits and vegetables. They’re just not what I reach for. SO this year, I am making a real and concerted effort to eat some sort of fruit or vegetable daily (yes, I know what I should be eating and I know it’s WAY more than once a day, but we’re taking baby steps here.) We all know it’s a smart move. So let’s just do it together, ok? Deal.

Can I remember the last time I worked out and/or did something physically positive for my body?

This can be taking the dog for a walk, this can be yoga, this can even be just stretching at night. I’m not saying we should all immediately sign up for a soul cycle class. BUT I am saying, it should be a goal to do SOMETHING physically positive for your body each week. Our writer, Kari, has posted a great cardio and toning workout that can be done without even leaving the house if you’re looking for somewhere to start.

Keeping these questions in mind is the way I give myself my own “Healthy Lifestyle Checkup”. I am not great at making sure all of these happen every day, but I am working towards being better… and I think that counts for something.
