Winter Skin & Nail Care

Dry. So….so dry.

At least, that’s the thought that comes to mind when I look at my face in the morning. Winter has a way of somehow sapping all the moisture from our skin. I don’t know about you, but I do NOT have tough girl skin. It is SENSITIVE. This sensitivity can be exacerbated by dryness because flaky skin clogs pores.

I used to think that the “tight” feeling my skin got after washing my face was GOOD (*gasp* I know). But my dermatologist told me that it ISN’T! It means your skin is dry and then will overcompensate with oil production to try to fix the problem. This is not good.

What we’re looking for is balance. We want products that are “noncomedogenic” (which means they won’t clog your pores) and will give your skin some much needed moisture this season.

Don’t forget your nails! Did you know nails need to breathe?! I was not aware of this, and I learned the hard way. If you leave your nail polish on too long OR just go from one color to the next and never let your natural nails see the light of day, you can develop some pretty ugly white spots and flakiness on your nails. I’m going to talk about how to fix that!

  • 1. Ponds Dry Skin Cream

An oldie, but a goodie. This might feel a little heavy for daytime under your makeup, but is PERFECT for an extra moisture boost at night.

  • 2. Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion for Face

This is a perfect lotion for daily use. Recommended to me by by dermatologist, it’s noncomedogenic and gets the job done. It also has an SPF, which is still very important in the winter time!

  • 3. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

What is this stuff?? Magic?! I have literally no idea how this stuff works, but it takes off ALL of my makeup, is oil free, noncomedogenic, and my rosacea has never felt/looked calmer.

  • 4. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Perfect if you’re looking for a sensitive skin approved lotion for your whole body that will deliver heavy moisture.

  • 5. Monat Rejouvenique Oil

This oil has about a million different uses. For those of us who would prefer a fast absorbing oil to a lotion, this stuff lasts forever, doesn’t clog pores, and smells AMAZING (we’re talking JUST like the lemon pound cake from Starbucks AMAZING). It’s perfect for your hair, hands, and legs.

  • 6. JASON Tea Tree Oil Nail Saver

Use this twice a day on your toesie nails (bare, without polish) for a few weeks and they’ll look good as new 😉
